A WHITE PASS BIBLIOGRAPHY The White Pass and Yukon is one of North America's most fascinating railroads, and a number of books are available for anyone interested in learning more about this great line. This bibliography, kindly supplied by Steven Hites of the White Pass & Yukon, alphabetically lists some of the available publications (publisher noted in parenthesis): - DOING THE WHITE PASS by Howard Clifford (Sourdough Press, 1982). Basic history of the White Pass - GOLD RUSH NARROW GAUGE by Cy Martin (Trans Anglo Books, 1967). Out of print, but very valuable for its fabulous "Dedman" photos. - GRIT, GRIEF AND GOLD by F.B. Whiting (Reprint from Shorey Books). Written by the railroad's Chief Surgeon in 1935. - HOGHEAD ON THE WHITE PASS by J.D. True (Lynn Canal Publishing, 1988). Engineer's diary of 1970's-1980's. - ON THE WHITE PASS PAYROLL by Samuel Graves (Reprint from Shorey Books). Written by the railroad's first President. First published in 1908. - RAILS NORTH by Howard Clifford (Howel-North, 1982). A good general history of all Alaska and Yukon railroads. - WHITE PASS: GATEWAY TO THE YUKON by Roy Minter (University of Alaska Press, 1988). Definitive history of the 1887-1900 period. Excellent text. - WHITE PASS & YUKON ROUTE - A PICTORIAL HISTORY by Stan Cohen (Pictorial Histories Publishing Company). Very good photos, minimal text. P.S. Issue Number 3 of LGB Telegram magazine contains an interview with Steve Hites and some historical photos of the White Pass. Issue Number 3 is expected to be available in late-October 1990.
