Note: As you know, some of these Model designations are arbitrary. For example, B39-8E=Dash8-B39, and so forth. I tried sticking to calling each model by their GE marketing designation. According to X2200 South magazine #88, even GE refers to their locomotives as *both* Dash-8-40C and C40-8, depending on which department you talk to at GE. Xyy-8= (eg. B39-8) original Dash8 with round cab roof, side grilles perpendicular to radiator "batwing", Dash8-yyX =(eg. Dash8-40B) Current production Dash-8 line. with flat, angular cab roof, Horizontally mounted front headlight, flared radiator grilles underneath batwing, old U-Boat style battery box arrangement behind cab. Dash8-B39 = Interim B39-8 visually identical to current Dash8 line, but without several internal improvements. The BC Rail Dash8 order is according to a source at GE. All other sources are from railfan magazines and Railway Age.
