Reservations are now accepted, just in time for Daytona Beach Bike Week 96 from March 1-10. Special racks will be used to enable passengers to help secure and remove their motorcycles. The bikes are held in place with wheel locks, side straps, stabilizing bars and an optional padded clamp for the seat. Cycles with standard and factory-approved farings and saddlebags are carried for the overnight trip between Virginia and Florida. Custom motorcycles, motorcycles with sidecars and chopped motorcycles cannot be accommodated. "Amtrak is becoming even more customer-focused," said Doug Varn, Auto Train general manager. "Our customers have asked for this and we are happy to respond in time for a great event." - more - - 2 - ATK-96-02 The northbound and southbound trains each depart at 4:30 p.m. and arrive the next morning at 9:00 a.m. Motorcycles must arrive at the Auto Train terminals in Lorton, Va., 20 miles south of Washington, D.C.) and Sanford, Fla., (25 miles southwest of DaytonaBeach at least two hours before the scheduled departure. Round-trip fares range from $400 to $1030 for a motorcycle and Auto Train passenger. All fares include lounge service, a feature film, and dinner and breakfast aboard the trains. First-class passengers can choose between economy and deluxe bedrooms aboard Amtrak's modern "Superliner" bi-level sleeping cars.
