BMT LINES Before the IRT used numbers to designate their routes the Brooklyn-Manhattan Transit Company (BMT) had numbers on their routes. The numbers were retained after unification in the early 1940's and continued until the mid 60's when the NYCTA reorganized all the BMT & IND lines. The information shown below was taken from a reprint of the BMT 1939/40 World's Fair map.
