NEWS National Railroad Passenger Corporation Amtrak Intercity 210 South Canal Street Chicago, Illinois 60606 Fax: 312 655-2565 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE ATK-96-80 April 15, 1996 Contact: Marc Magliari 312-655-1338 TRACK IMPROVEMENT SCHEDULE CHANGE ALLOWS NORMAL OPERATION FOR AMTRAK ST. LOUIS MULE TRAINS CHICAGO -- The Amtrak St. Louis Mule (train #306) will operate as scheduled and depart Kansas City at 3:30 p.m. daily, despite track work being performed by the Union Pacific Railroad (UP). Last week, Amtrak announced that weekday departures of the St. Louis Mule would be delayed by construction work by the UP on 11 miles of track near Sedalia, Mo. Since then, the UP has changed its work schedule to allow the train to operate normally and to depart Kansas City on schedule. Amtrak apologizes for any inconvenience its previous announcement might have caused. The track work is designed to produce a smoother ride for passengers and continued reliable on-time performance. Amtrak operates two round-trips daily between St. Louis and Kansas City. Service along the St. Louis-Kansas City corridor is supported in part by the State of Missouri. Please see an authorized Amtrak travel agent, visit a staffed Amtrak station or call 1-800-USA-RAIL for details on this service. # # #
