(Down from 85 to purchased.) ARTICULATED TROLLEY COACHES - 55 articulated trolley coaches would replace 85 trolley coaches (5 artics=7 std. TC's) in FY 90-91. (Down from 60 in the 1988 Plan.) 31- BALBOA ELECTRIFICATION - Construction in scheduled to start in July, 1990 to be completed by December, 1991. 71-NORIEGA ELECTRIFICATION - Planned conversion to start in June, 1993 and to completed by January, 1995. The 7-Haight and the 71-Noriega would be combined thus reducing the number of diesels through the Haight area. J-CHURCH EXTENSION - The fully funded 2.3 mile extension of the J from 30th and Church to the Metro Center will have both non-revenue pull-outs and pull- ins from the J and N lines as well as revenue service planned for a starting date of March, 1990. Muni is considering operating the one car J line trains to Stonestown and terminating the two car M line trains at San Francisco State University. In the 1989-1994 Plan, a pocket track would be built south of S. F. State Universoty for the M Line and north of Stonestown for the J Line. Construction of this project is projected to be completed by January, 1991. 19TH AVENUE IMPROVEMENTS - The City has proposed improvements be made to State Highway 1 at 19th and Holloway and 19th and Winston by means of grade separations, thus reducing trip times on the M line. NEW SUBWAY SIGNAL SYSTEM - A new system is on the drawing boards for imple- mentation in FY 92-93 that would improve headways and speed, dependent upon funding. To be completed by March, 1993. BALLPARK SERVICE - Muni is looking for private operators to run the Ballpark Service which Muni operates at a loss. No Muni personnel would be laid off as Muni operates the service with extra-board drivers and drivers on overtime. 14-MISSION TO DALY CITY BART - Expected to be operational in FY 91-92, the Mission and Lowell short-turn service would be moved north to Mission & Geneva, thus the same number of TCs would be required to operate this exten- sion. REVENUE CENTER/NEW FAREBOXES - 1,200 high-tech electronic fareboxes and related revenue collection and sorting equipment should be installed between April, 1990 and April, 1991. Also funded would be 11 new positions to main- tain the fare boxes and sort the dollar bills. A new consolidated Revenue Center is also planned in the immediate future. FARE MACHINES - Fare machines would be installed North of Van Ness and would thus allow boarding of all vehicles by both doors, thus increasing loading times. HONOR FARE SYSTEM - On LRV Surface Lines, Pass Holders would board the second car and those who need to pay would board the first car. Roving Fare Inspec- tors would roam the system checking on fares and also providing security to the system. Metro stations would be barrier-free with machines available to purchase tickets/transfers. An overall savings would result, as the second car operators could now be deployed as Fare Inspectors. Implementation of this plan requires a policy decision by the Public Utilities Commission. MUNI METRO TURNBACK - This project would see the Metro extended beyond Embar- cadero Station with a portal south of Mission Street between Howard and Fol- som Streets. Tracks for train switching would be constructed under the sur- face of the Embarcadero between Market and Howard Streets. One tail track would be extended south of Folsom Street for disabled train storage. Con- struction is planned to begin in March, 1991 with completion by December, 1994. Some additional planning may have to be done in regards to the recent decision by the Mayor and the City Council to remove the quake damaged Embar- cadero Freeway and to replace it with an undergound freeway. MISSION BAY TRANSIT IMPROVEMENTS - Starting in 1993, Muni will add service to the Mission Bay Development. The 22, 30/45 and 47 TC lines, in addition to several bus and the Muni Metro would be extended to this area. E-EMBARCADERO LINE - Expected to be operational by FY 94-95, will eliminate the 8 TC line and the 32 Bus line. This line would run from Castro, down Mar- ket and then along the Embarcadero looping via Jefferson, Jones and Beach Streets. A yard would be built near the Mission Bay Development. HISTORIC STREETCAR REHABILITATION - If funds are available, one historic streetcar would be totally reconctructed. CABLE CAR EXTENSION - The Powell-Mason (Fisherman's Wharf) Cable Car line will be extended one block towards Fisherman's Wharf. Construction is planned from June, 1992 to June, 1994. POTRERO DIVISION - Plans are underway to convert this fcaility to handle 150 articulated trolley coaches. PRESIDIO DIVISION - Plans are being developed to remodel this facility, including removing the MUNI Headquarters and making the entire lot available for trolley coaches and using the air rights for shops and/or housing. TROLLEY OVERHEAD RECONSTRUCTION - Portions of the 14, 4 and 6 lines overhead are scheduled to be reconstructed in the next 5 years.
