The Texas Eagle will continue to make five other Arkansas stops, including Little Rock, 84 miles south of Newport and Walnut Ridge, 37 miles north of Newport. The Little Rock station is staffed by Amtrak ticket agents and offers checked baggage and other services. The southbound Texas Eagle stops in Walnut Ridge at 5:42 a.m. and in Little Rock at 8:08 a.m., Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays. The northbound Texas Eagle stops in Little Rock at 11:02 p.m. on Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays and in Walnut Ridge at 1:05 a.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. The Texas Eagle operates tri-weekly between Chicago and Texas. In addition to service to San Antonio via Dallas and Fort Worth, the southbound Texas Eagle also continues on to Los Angeles in combination with the Sunset Limited (trains #1 & 2). Passengers who have already purchased tickets to Newport will be reaccommodated. Those who have made reservations on the Texas Eagle from Newport will be contacted directly by Amtrak.
