The following is the annual Amtrak Speed Survey as published in the July issue of "The Bull Sheet" (Allen R. Brougham 8708 Richmond Ave. Baltimore MD 21234) It is a compedium of endpoint to endpoint schedule speeds as published in the Amtrak public timetables of April 14, 1996. (Trains 1-2 are updated to the current schedule) It should be noted for the 'purists' among us, that the publisher has established this as a SCHEDULE rather than an OPERATIONAL survey. Therefore, the following items should be noted (items with a '*' are chosen to conform to previous years for statistical purposes): Trains 21-22 are shown as Chicago-Los Angeles (in reality they operate Chicago-San Antonio, a coach and sleeper are carried on trains 1-2 San Antonio-Los Angeles) *Trains 27-28 are shown as Chicago-Portland (in reality they operate Spokane-Portland, equipment is carried on trains 7-8 Chicago-Spokane ) *Trains 81/91-82/92 are shown as separate trains.
