GENERAL INFORMATION

This is a preserved railway with an 18 mile line running between Pickering 
and Grosmont (near Whitby). It was originally constructed by George 
Stephenson in the 1830's and runs through the North Yorkshire Moors National 
Park offering some spectacular scenery.

Special events and dining services are run throughout the year.

STATION SHOP

The Pickering Station Shop carries a wide range of books and videos, many in 
NTSC format. Mail order is available.

TIMETABLE

Trains run from April 1st to October 29th plus Santa Specials and dining 
trains around Christmas and the new year.

The basic timetable is -

depart Grosmont 9.50 11.50 12.50 14.50 16.50

At weekends and during holiday periods extra services are run.

Intermediate stops are at Levisham, Newtondale and Goathland.

DINING TRAINS

The North Yorkshireman runs from Grosmont to Pickering return on Saturday 
evenings from 6th May to 30th September for a delicious 5 course dinner.

The Pickering Pullman runs from Pickering to Grosmont return every Friday 
evening from 2nd June to 29th September for a five course star night out.

The Moorlander runs from Pickering on Sundays from 19th February to 26th 
March and from Grosmont every Sunday from 2nd April to 29th October 
(excluding 18th June and 17th September) for a traditional Yorkshire sunday 
lunch. The Moorlander also runs a Christmas lunch service during December.

Advance booking for the dining services is essential.

SPECIAL EVENTS 1995

1st & 2nd April OPEN WEEKEND - Preview of the season with steam and diesel 
running. Look behind the scenes at a working railway.

6th to 8th May VE WARTIME WEEKEND - Commemoration of victory in Europe with 
"homecoming" march, street parties and all the sights and sounds of the era.

17th & 18th June FRIENDS OF THOMAS THE TANK ENGINE WEEKEND - A weekend of 
delight for all Thomas fans.

1st & 2nd July 150th ANNIVERSARY GALA - to commemerate the opening of the 
York to Scarborough line and the NYMR's connection to the national rail 
network.

9th July TEDDY BEARS PICNIC - Fun and games for Teddy owners young and old.

22nd & 23rd July VINTAGE VEHICLE WEEKEND - Nostalgia on wheels at all 
stations.

16th & 17th September FRIENDS OF THOMAS THE TANK ENGINE WEEKEND - More fun 
with the Fat Controller.

7th & 8th October ANNUAL STEAM GALA - Annual steam extravaganza.

28th & 29th October WARTIME WEEKEND - Relive the wartime days of rail travel.
