World Cup 98 - Rail Travel Information: UK To And Within France *************************************************************** 10 June to 12 July 1998 sees France hosting the 1998 World Cup which will be held in 10 cities across the country. French Railways (SNCF) are the preferred partner of the event and the UK subsidiary, Rail Europe, will be at the forefront of selling rail travel both from the UK and within France. * A dedicated World Cup 98 telephone booking line has been set up for all rail travel matters connected with the event on: 087090 4-4-2-98 The lines are open Monday to Friday from 0900 to 19.00, Saturdays 09.00 to 16.00 * Eurostar services from London to France and domestic TGV services will be in high demand for the duration of the event. As a result tickets for Eurostar and certain TGV services for travel between 1 June and 16 July 1998 will be on sale from 20 December. Early booking for travel to Paris and the other cities is strongly recommended between these dates, especially for Paris towards the period of the semi-finals and final (7 to 12 July) * Certain Eurostar fare categories which do not permit change reservation after the commencement of the outward journey will have modified fare conditions to give more flexibility * Combined Eurostar and TGV fares from the UK to all host cities will be on sale, again fare conditions will become more flexible * A range of attractive point-to-point tickets for travel wholly within France with special discounts for two travelling will be on sale. However domestic Apex-type ("Discovery") tickets will only be on sale 60 days in advance. These tickets will be very limited in numbers and are non- exchangeable and only partially redfundable * For those who require full flexibility, EuroDomino Passes offering 3, 5 or 10 days unlimited travel in France over a period of one month both in 2nd and 1st Class will be an alternative option. Special rates for under 26s. * Travel on public transport in the host cities will be on sale in the form of a "Mobifoot" Pass * Large groups wanting to travel together will be able to charter trains via the London office of Rail Europe.
