Similar to the eventual through electricfication of the Transsiberian Railway (a long-standing thread in the old Trainnet Forum) on 23 Dec., the opening of the New Delhi Subway has been a bit forgotten by newsprint media on 26/27 December. It actually opened for the first 8.6 of 62 km on 25 December, 2002.
Quite a few trains were reported to have been overcrowded, and due to door stalling one of the 4 trainsets had to be taken out of service during the day (resembling other opening mishaps all over the globe).
I haven't seen the matter in the "Industry News" column on the TN Homepage, so I apologize for attaching the German "FAZ" note from Dec. 27, 2002 here.
